Posted in Geek OutOur Blog

Netflix has been churning out some incredible original series lately, and one that has caught the attention of many viewers is Baby Reindeer. This show has gone viral in an unprecidented manner, and rightly so. This British black comedy drama-thriller miniseries, created by and starring Richard Gadd, is an adaptation of Gadd’s real-life harrowing events. In this review, we’ll take a closer look at what makes Baby Reindeer such a compelling watch.

A Unique and Personal Story

What sets Baby Reindeer apart from other series is its deeply personal and dark storyline. Based on Gadd’s real-life experience of being stalked and sexually assaulted in his twenties, the series delves into the dark and unsettling world of obsession and trauma. Gadd’s raw and honest portrayal of his own experiences adds an extra layer of authenticity to the narrative, making it a truly compelling watch.

While the subject matter may be heavy, Baby Reindeer manages to strike a delicate balance between drama and comedy. Gadd’s sharp wit and dark humor infuse the series with moments of levity, providing some relief from the intense and emotional moments.

Richard Gadd not only stars in Baby Reindeer, but he also serves as the creator and driving force behind the series. His performance is nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Gadd effortlessly transitions between moments of vulnerability and strength, capturing the complexities of his own character’s journey.

Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau also deliver stunning performances which simply elevate this amazing tale, creating a gripping and immersive narrative.

The Narrative

One of the standout aspects of Baby Reindeer is its unpredictable narrative. Each episode unravels new layers of the story, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. The series expertly weaves together past and present, blurring the lines between reality and memory.

The pacing of Baby Reindeer is spot-on, with each episode leaving you wanting more. The tension builds steadily throughout the series, culminating in a satisfying and thought-provoking conclusion. It’s a testament to the skillful storytelling and Gadd’s ability to keep viewers invested in the narrative.

A Must-Watch Series

Baby Reindeer is a series that demands to be seen. It tackles a difficult subject matter with sensitivity and honesty, shedding light on the lasting effects of trauma. Gadd’s powerful performance and the compelling narrative make it a must-watch for fans of thought-provoking and emotionally charged storytelling.

The weirdest aspect that comes out of this series is the reaction of the general public to this tale. For the most part people seem to be focussing on the stalking part, which is indeed harrowing, but the part of the story that left me most perplexxed and saddened is the sexual assault suffered by Gadd. I can safely say that the sequences leading up to it and following it, were perhaps the most thought provoking. But I can ramble on infinitely about the story, because it is THAT good.

Prepare to be taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as you delve into Gadd’s personal journey of survival and self-discovery. This series is sure to leave a lasting impression.
